The coral island, less than one mile long and 700 yards wide, is situated on the
most northerly end of the Seychelles Archipelago, about 30 minutes by plane from
Mahé. During the months of May to October, millions of Sooty Terns come to the
nature reserve to nest. Other species like the Fairy Tern or the Coco turtledove
are famous residents of the island. The world's largest land tortoise, "Esmeralda"
(300 kg, about 170 years old) lives on this private paradise along
with other tortoises.
