Singita Private Game Reserve

Member of the "Relais & Chateaux" Hotels

The Singita Private Game Reserve is part of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, bordering on the western sector of the Krüger National Park. The area is not fenced off in the direction of Krüger Park so the animals can move freely between the National Park and Sabi Sand. In the Shangaan language, the word singita means "wonder". Given the astonishing abundance of wildlife to be found on this large reserve, the name could not have been better chosen.

Ebony Lodge & Boulders Lodge
The first two lodges on the Singita Game Reserve are situated in 18.000 hectares, areas of which are still wholly untouched. The magnificent landscape, studded with copses of mighty ebony trees and ribboned by the course of the Sand River, lends the lodges a grandeur of their own.

Rooms/Accommodation: For sheer luxury Boulders Lodge is something of the jewel in the crown for the Relais & Chateaux group, which manages the reserve. Not that Ebony Lodge is any less noticeably sumptuous. Both Boulders Lodge and Ebony Lodge have 18 Suites apiece, each of which boasts its own private swimming pool. The spaciously designed rooms have verandas, open fireplaces, a lounge, bathrooms, showers, an extra outdoor shower, air conditioning, minibars, telephones, safes and hair dryers. The Suites not only allow guests to bath in the pool, but also to soak in a free-standing Victorian bathtub as well. At Boulders Lodge, the Suites measure 90 m˛, at Ebony Lodge 85 m˛, and that is without taking into account the spacious panorama deck.

The facilities at the Singita Game Reserve include an open day room, a swimming pool, terrace, bar and souvenir shop. The restaurant area serves an excellent cuisine, and has a boma (a traditional gathering spot), where tables can be set for outdoor dining.

Activities: There are twice-daily wildlife-watching expeditions in an open all-terrain vehicle with experienced gamekeepers as guides. With a bit of luck, there is a chance of coming across the Big Five - elephants, lions, rhinos, leopards and buffalo - as well as a host of other wild animals such as zebra, antelopes and giraffes. Guest can also go on hikes with the reserve's rangers, all of whom know the area like of their hands, and make use of the facilities at the hotel's fitness centre.
